Throughout the program, we learned various case studies, models, and participated in many personality inventories as ways to reflect on ourselves, and to exercise our team decision-making, both in and outside the classroom.
Stepladder TheoryThe cohort learned about the stepladder theory to learn about what needs to be paid attention to in order to be an effective group. Each step asks questions, beginning with identifying who you are and what your purpose is. This was done through self-reflection with personality inventories such as the Motivators Assessment, MBTI, and Belbin's team roles. The next couple steps go into identifying the others on the team.

Crucial Conversations
In Reutlingen, we had a lesson on how to engage in crucial conversations. Going with the theme of reflection, the first step was the look inward and to look at the problem with yourself first. A skill we learned involved identifying the crucial conversation that was key and figuring out if the problem was content (a single instance), pattern (recurring problem), or relationship (an issue affecting the working relationship.) In and outside of class we practiced identifying the right motive in the conversation, creating safety in the space, and mastering communication skills that uses facts and minimizes defensiveness.
